Mentorship

Although PCRID does not create mentor-mentee partner permanency, we create collaborative opportunities together with our community.

Learning Opportunities

Contact president@pc-rid.org to learn more about the following opportunities.

Conference Support Staff

Volunteer your time as support staff during the PCRID annual conference and attend as many hours as you volunteer, for free.

Board & Committee Mentorships

Are you curious about the PCRID board and committee process? Mentor with a committee chair or member of the board of directors, and get valuable learning experiences. Ideal for graduating students, new interpreters, or experienced interpreter leadership new to the area.

Student Service Learning

The Student Service Learning Partnership Program with PCRID is an opportunity for Students who are in Interpreting Programs to work with the PCRID Board and Committees to provide volunteer service, and in return, gain insight in the interpreting community & profession, network, and practice ASL communication skills.

In Your Corner

In Your Corner’ is a program designed by the PCRID Mentorship Committee to foster interpreter growth and experience. There is a great need for interpreter mentors of all skill sets. Please consider offering your time to foster the next generation of growing interpreters or allowing ‘In Your Corner’ teams to practice at your next event!

PCRID Mentorship Philosophy

  • We embrace the mentor and mentee in all of us as we commit to foster opportunities to both learn and teach.
  • We strive to acknowledge the fluidity of enrichment within the person, the profession, and the community, as it is essential.
  • We recognize mentorship has an integral part of the interpreting profession that can be used as a development tool at any point in an individual’s career.
  • We acknowledge mentorship does not exist in isolation, and values internal and external collaboration, serving as a centralized source of information.
  • We understand that mentorship can materialize in many different ways using a variety of models.
  • We will promote unique opportunities that advance mentoring in a variety of formats for a diverse audience.
