About Me: Hi, my name is Shannon and I'm a local certified ASL-English interpreter, mother and wife. I began interpreting professionally in DC but I have relocated to neighboring Baltimore where I do on-site and virtual work. I love connecting with people, learning new things, and supporting my friends and family any way I can!

What I hope to bring to PCRID is: Gentleness, grace, and transparency. I hope through my leadership I am able to model a kindness and honesty that stays with people as they navigate not only the field of interpreting but in their own lives too.

About Me: Hello, PCRID members! My name is Emily Dittmer. Since 2019, I've had the privilege of working as a freelance interpreter in Washington, D.C. My favorite thing about my job is the novelty of each day! The people I have the pleasure of working with challenge me to be both a better human and better interpreter. Through my position as secretary, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to give back to the interpreting and Deaf communities in a tangible way.

What I hope to bring to PCRID is: I hope to bring eagerness and creativity in supporting the PCRID vision and board for the next two years. In my time here, I commit to prioritizing connection and inclusion in the spaces we create with our community. I hope I leave PCRID having shown a willingness to listen, an ability to take responsibility for my mistakes, and a courage to show up and act in my position as secretary.

Interpreting Background: Hi Everyone! I'm History Estill-Varner and I've been working as a part-time Freelance interpreter since 2015. In 2017,  I moved to DC and love it! I appreciate the diversity of work and people you can find here - I get to dabble in a bit of everything! In addition to my interpreting work, I've worked as a Director of a non-profit and recently transitioned to a Program Manager in the for-profit tech space. I love the ability to bring my professional background to my interpreting work and believe it makes me a well-rounded interpreter.

What I hope to bring to PCRID is: As community liaison, I look forward to creating connections and collaborative partnerships. I also believe that my non-profit background will be an asset to this already stellar team!

What I hope to bring to PCRID is: One thing I appreciate about PCRID is that it creates a community of interpreters from all over the region and gives interpreters a space to talk about how to make our work and community better. As liaison, I would like to bring MDAD and PCRID members together to create opportunities to learn from each other and collaborate on common goals.

Identities & Background: I am a white, cisgender, hearing, able-bodied female.

Interpreting Background:  I graduated from the Bachelor of Arts in Interpretation (BAI) program at Gallaudet University in 2020. I have been continuously learning ASL since 2012. I have been professionally interpreting since fall 2020. I am currently serving as the volunteer CEU workshops coordinator for the PCRID CMP team, and I have been in this role since 2019 or 2020. I currently live in Denver, Colorado and love it here! I do love D.C. though. 

3 things I like about interpreting are: always learning and being challenged, getting to work with phenomenal, diverse professionals and DHH folks, and never knowing what is in store for me, because every job is unique.

What I hope to bring to PCRID is: I hope to bring my organizational skills and support of fellow interpreters, as well as supporting those who earn CEUs. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about earning and/or processing CEUs. Thank you!

Interpreting Background: I graduated from the ITP at CCBC in 2012 and have been interpreting part-time since 2017 in various community settings.

3 things I like about interpreting are: 1) the variety of work and people 2) I love language, so processing and studying the meaning in order to render the most conceptually accurate message is exciting 3) the challenge of it 

What I hope to bring to PCRID is: I’m honored to join this team of wonderful interpreters and to be of service by processing PINRA CEUs. I hope to bring a humble attitude to learn and grow as an interpreter and as a person.
