Sage Program

PCRID supports professional development by giving scholarships, awards, and grants. All winners must be members in good standing. This year's application deadline for all funding is _________. Applications must be submitted by email to SAGE@pc-rid.org before 11:59 pm. All decisions are made in the fall, between October and November and announced during the PCRID Annual Conference. PCRID Board members are not eligible.

Scholarships, Awards, and Grants


Scholarships

All scholarships are competitive and Board Members, Committee Chairs/Program Leads are not eligible.

Conference Scholarships

Two (2) $500 professional development scholarships will be awarded annually.

Conference scholarships recognize and reward members dedicated to professional growth. The conference scholarship provides funding for attendance to local and/or national conferences in the interpreting field.

Eligibility Requirements*

  • Applications must be submitted in person or by email to SAGE@pc-rid.org on or before ______.  

  • Applicants must be RID and PCRID members in good standing.

  • Applicants must complete and submit documentation showing attendance and involvement in conference or workshop.

  • Examples of documentation to accompany this application are the following but not limited to:

    • Proof of confirmation to registrations of workshops or meetings.
    • Documentation from respective host of workshops or meetings.
    • Reference letters of attendance.
    • Other types of documents may be accepted depending upon validation.
  • Recipients of scholarships must create a short minute video in ASL (and translated into English) sharing about experiences while at the conference which was funded by the conference scholarship.

* Social events do not qualify.

* Scholarship exclusively covers registration, transportation, and lodging.

Certification: NIC Performance Exam & CDI Knowledge Exam

Two (2) NIC Performance Exam and two (2) CDI Knowledge Exam scholarships will be awarded annually during the PCRID annual conference.

PCRID’s certification exam scholarship encourages uncertified members that have not yet taken a nationally recognized performance test to take steps toward national certification.

Applications must be submitted in person or by email to SAGE@pc-rid.org on or before August 20th.

Eligibility Requirements*

  • Applicants must submit proof of being members in good standing with PCRID and RID prior to the application deadline.

  • NIC Performance Exam applicants must submit proof that the NIC Knowledge Exam has been passed and they are eligible to take the NIC Interview and Performance Exam on RID/CASLI terms. CDI Knowledge Exam applicants must submit proof they are eligible to take the exam on RID/CASLI terms.

  • Applicants must submit a letter explaining the need for the scholarship, why you are the most appropriate candidate, and how you could positively impact the D/deaf, hard of hearing, and/or interpreting communities if the exam is passed.

  • Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a professor, Deaf professional, colleague, or mentor.  Please have your reference send the letter directly to the SAGE committee at SAGE@pc-rid.org.

* If there are no proposals and/or applicants do not satisfy criteria, no grant will be given.

* Awardee will be reimbursed according to receipts provided per PCRID Policy.

Awards and Grants

Outstanding Service Award

One (1) winner will be announced at the annual PCRID conference.

Nomination material must be submitted 30 days in advance of the Annual Conference.

The Outstanding Service Award has been established to provide a mechanism for PCRID members to recognize, appreciate, and honor a fellow member who has contributed a great deal of time and effort toward the mission and goals of PCRID over the last year.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Nominee must have shown significant time and effort put toward PCRID's mission and goals over the last year.
  • Nominee must be a PCRID and RID member in good standing for at least one (1) year before their nomination.

Nominating a Member

  • Anyone may nominate an eligible individual using the nomination form. Additional pages may be attached if needed.
  • Documents should be sent to the Scholarship and Awards Committee at SAGE@pc-rid.org.

Professional Service Award

One (1) winner will be announced at the annual PCRID conference.

Nomination material must be submitted 30 days in advance of the Annual Conference.

The Professional Service Award recognizes and honors a PCRID member who has made outstanding contributions to the field of ASL interpretation/transliteration over the years.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Nominee must have demonstrated oustanding contributions to the field of ASL interpretation/transliteration over the years.
  • Nominee must be an RID and PCRID member in good standing for at least one (1) year before their nomination.

Nominating a Member

  • Anyone may nominate an eligible individual using the nomination form. Additional pages may be attached if needed.
  • Documents should be sent to the Scholarship and Awards Committee at SAGE@pc-rid.org.

PCRID Research Grant

One (1) $1000 research grant will be awarded annually.

PCRID’s research grant encourages members to conduct research in the form of a thesis, dissertation, or independent study to enhance the interpreting field.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The research conducted must be in relation to the field of ASL interpreting or transliteration.
  • For research conducted in relation to a University or Institution the applicant must include their Institutional Review Board (IRB) application and letter of approval.
  • For independent research the applicant must include a proposal containing their research question, abstract, introduction, and methodology along with participant informed consent forms and recording release forms as needed.  
  • Applications must be submitted in person or by email to SAGE@pc-rid.org on or before _____.
  • Applicants must be members in good standing of RID and PCRID for at least one (1) year before submitting their application for this grant.
  • Applicant must provide the proposed date of completion for the project.
  • Applicants must provide an itemized budget for approval and receipts to obtain reimbursement are required.
  • Applicant's completed research must be provided to PCRID for publication on the PCRID website.  
  • Completed research must be presented during a PCRID meeting or gathering.

* If there are no proposals and/or the grant applicant does not satisfy all listed criteria, no grant will be given.

* Awardee will be reimbursed according to receipts provided per PCRID Policy.
